2013 DRAFT RECAP

We’ll start this off with a recap of the draft.  Ten team league and Touchdown My Pants picks 8th.  Here’s a link to all of the picks (http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/tools/draftrecap?leagueId=153454).  I’ll discuss my picks in detail.

Jamaal Charles, KC RB
I love me some Jamaal Charles.  He was my second rated player behind Adrian Peterson.  Arguably the most exciting player in the league.  Completely electric, and now Andy Reid running the ship.  That can't be bad.  Had to use my 2nd round pick to protect him but hoping he pays off big time.

player photoRound #1
LeSean McCoy, Phi RB

Seriously?  This guy falls to me with the 8th pick.  Couldn't be more pleased.  This guy has the ability to be a top two or three RB.  Chip Kelly is gonna run, run, and run some more.  Teaming him with Charles is unbelievable.  Just hope they both stay healthy.

player photoRound #3
Larry Fitzgerald, Arz WR

Eighteen players picked between my picks so some good guys went off the board.  I think Fitzgerald is a complete steal here.  Last season was obviously a down year for him, but the talent didn't just dissappear.  In comes a new pass happy coach in Bruce Ariens and a QB who can finally get him the ball in Carson Palmer.  I would be shocked if he doesn't top 90 catches, 1300 yards and double digit td's.  And that my friends will be a complete steal in round three.

Roddy White, Atl WR

I thought about White in the last round when I took Fitzgerald.  Pleasantly surprised he made it through the wraparound to get to me.  From my rankings, I now have two of the top five RBs and two of the top nine WRs in first four rounds.  Not bad so far.

Round #5
Rob Gronkowski, NE TE
Rolling the dice here with this pick as Gronk has been injured all preseason and will probably not play until late September.  But this guy is fantasy gold when he plays, especially at the TE position.  I'll take the gamble and  plug in a replacement until he's healthy.

Round #6
Matt Ryan, Atl QB
Unbelievable to me that this guy available.  Hard to believe that eight QBs taken before him?  He's on a great team with incredible weapons at his disposal.  He only threw for 4700 yards and 32 tds last year.  Not hard to imagine that he will actually improve on those numbers.

Round #7
Jason Witten, Dal TE
Another long wait and another guy falls in my lap.  Gonna ride this guy until Gronk is healthy.  Then I have trade bait down the road.  Even if I don't move him, he's not racking up points on another teams roster.

Round #8
Cecil Shorts, Jax WR
Best available player.  This guy has some skills.  Don't like the guys that are getting him the ball, but that didn't stop him from gaining almost 1000 yards last year with seven scores.  Excellent backup WR and flex play option.

Round #9
Chris Ivory, NYJ RB
Not the sexiest pick, but could pay dividends.  I mean, somebody has to carry the ball for the Jets.  I think given the opportunity, he can perform.  But you never know with Rex Ryan.  We shall see.

Round #10
Shane Vereen, NE RB

This guy is a wildcard pick.  He firmly behind Stevan Ridley as the every down back, but he could prove to be valuable as a third-down back in the Darren Sproles mode.  Pats have lost some weapons in the offseason.  This guy will be given an opportunity to fill some shoes.

Round #11
Justin Blackmon, Jax WR

I hate his team and his QB.  Hate his attitude.  Hate the fact he's suspended for the first four games of the season.  But love this guy's talent. Came on strong at the end of last year.  Team him up with Shorts and hope one comes through in a big way.  Stranger things have happened.

Round #12
Ben Tate, Hou RB

I'm stealing the handcuff here.  Will never crack the lineup unless Arien Foster goes down in Houston.  That's something that has happened every year.  Banking on this guy to produce when he does.  Also something that has happened every year.

Round #13
Mike Williams, TB WR

Not sure how this guy is available at pick #128?  Guy was four yards short of a 1000 yard season last year and scored nine times.  Same coach.  Same QB.  Potential steal this late.

Round #14
Bryce Brown, Phi RB

Now I'm gonna handcuff my 1st round pick.  Hope he never plays.  If he does, hope he plays well.

Round #15
Josh Freeman, TB QB
Last position player to be taken.  Backing up the QB position.  Not sure why as there are several guys like Freeman out there.  Only reason I went with him was the matchup during Matt Ryan's bye week.  But thinking about it, I'll probably end up cutting him and picking somebody up off the wire.  Wasted pick.

Pittsburgh Steelers logoRound #16
Pittsburgh Steelers, D/ST

Once again, unbelievable!  Kaeding is my top ranked kicker and I get him as the eighth kicker taken?  One team actually drafter two kickers?  It’s hard to get overly excited about drafting a kicker, but I really cannot believe Kaeding was available.

Round #17
Garrett Hartley, NO PK

My last pick.  Gotta have a kicker.  Going with the guy on the high octane offense.  Plus he kicks indoors.  But he's a kicker.  Who really cares.

Overall, I love this draft and how the team turned out.  Top-5 QB and RBs.  Two top-10 WRs.  Maybe the best TE.  Solid depth.  If these guys perform just on average it should be a good season.  Bring on the games!!
